Hotel Royal Tahitien

Great property, we only stayed for the day, had late night flight. Enjoyed the pool, beaches on site open to the public. The Restaurant was very good, great staff. The Negative was coming off cruise the hotel was not prepared to handle the customers that were checking out or checking in. They wanted to charge $90 for early check in before 2pm. Our room was not ready at 2pm, we arrived at 10am. They did allow us to use the pool and facilities until our room was ready. Our room was very clean and roomy.

Overall, a very good hotel with great facilities. The staff was very attentive to customers.

Initially upon arriving, the hotel informed that they didn;t have a reservation for us. I showed them the Expedia resevation confirmation, but the hotel stated it was never sent to them. After alot of frustration, they found us a room & then a couple hours later stated we could stay for the 2 nights as booked. Other than that, the stay was great. You are a little isolated unless you rent a car. Not alot of things to walk to & the main street has alot of traffic. You would have to get taxis to get you to shopping & restaurants away from the hotel. The hotel grounds, pool & beach are wonderful. They are highly maintained and its fun to watch all of the chickens running around.

We were impressed with how helpful the staff was in meeting our needs. Due to airline issues we didn't arrive in Papeete until after midnight and then through customs after 1:30am made for a long day. There were concerns about checking in to the hotel and the taxi we had booked through the hotel because of our original arrival time being around 7pm. Thankfully the taxi company was waiting with lei's and our name written on a white board for us right out side the airport and the taxi driver had the phone number to call so someone could come and check us in at 2am and after traveling for more than 24 hours this made for a wonderful end to a long stressful day. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable to sleep in, The room had a nice little kitchenet along with cooking utensils and place settings. This type of hotel is nice for being a place for those who just want to explore the island and not have to eat at restaurants for every meal. Don't expect the Hilton but on the other hand the staff did give better friendly greetings and service than other hotels we have stayed at in Papeete. Fair notice if you are one of those who have a TV addiction even when on vacation the TV is the size of a desk top monitor. We never turned it on once. I would suggest when booking this hotel to get the added breakfast as it is more expensive there if you're staying only for one night, Other than that enjoy the "wildlife" roaming about the grounds and be sure to order taxi's early.
