Rishiri Antique Inn

Whenever I travel, I try to find places where not many Koreans have been. And somehow, those places always lead me closer to nature. Places with very few Korean reviews are usually far from the cities, where you can still find old-fashioned countryside life and surroundings that are hard to experience in Korea these days. Of course, I know this kind of environment can feel uncomfortable for many Koreans. I used to feel the same way too. So unless you’ve reached some kind of “higher level” of traveling haha, I totally understand. That’s why honestly, I’m not sure I would recommend this place to every Korean traveler. It’s probably not the style most Koreans look for. But if you want to slow down, relax, and enjoy nature, I really hope you come here. For me, it felt like staying at a friend’s house. I loved having random little conversations with the young Japanese host, who somehow seems to know a lot about everything (he’s basically human Google lol). Since I’ve never experienced countryside life before, staying here almost felt like stepping into 검정고무신, an old Korean cartoon set in the countryside. The house feels like a real Japanese countryside home, filled with the host’s huge collection of pottery and old things. I especially loved that it doesn’t feel like someone tried to make the place look Japanese. It just is, and that made it even more special to me. And the breakfast… seriously good. Like, seriously. I think I’ll remember this house, the host, and definitely the breakfast for a long time.

A cozy house, comfortable futons and just a couple of minutes walk from the best onsen in Rishiri! Oji was super nice and gave the best recommendations and his cooking skills are superb (we recommend the offered dinner) <3

Yuki-san is the best host, very knowledgeable about Rishiri Island and also very welcoming, kind and wittty! It was a pleasure to spend 3 days at his place. He offers multiple options for additional activities (Island tour of secret places, pick up at the Mount camp...). The inn has all the comfort needed, is artistically decorated and furnished (special mention to the super soft silk carpet in the living room), and is located near many nice restaurants and shops. Yuki is also a wonderful cook and might offer to prepare dinner at home too. The onsen nearby with golden salty water is a blessing, especially if you have climbed Mount Rishiri earlier in the day…
