Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto

Loved the rooms!! staff were fantastic. The onsen was lovely. Excellent position. Dinner was delicious. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The service at breakfast was slow and the breakfast was a little disappointing as it was the same everyday.

The hotel, room and staff were exemplary. We also had dinner one evening which was highly enjoyable set course tasting menu (also excellent value for the quality, service and surroundings). The location was ideal for us, quiet in the middle of the temple area and away from the tourists. However you do need to traipse up and down a relatively steep hill. We are fit 60 year olds so were happy and able to walk the hill into Gion but may be a consideration for others.

There were a couple of additional charges you would not expect from such a lifestyle, luxury hotel ie the morning yoga session and the mini bar. We stayed in a number of small boutique hotels on out travels in Japan costing a 1/3rd of the room rate yet they all provided that initial welcoming complimentary mini bar & other services such as bikes/yoga. Simple gestures (and avoidance of services inherent in the offering that have supplemental charges) make a major difference when considering value for money.

Everything is wonderful. The corner room had a nice view of Gion area and a Japanese style bath was nostalgic to me that memories of my family. The location is a few minutes away from Nene no Michi which was awesome. Ukata was very nice too. All the staffs are kind.
