Villa Rosebud: Meeting the Kindest Person on the Worst Day
1. Losing Our Passports
Before going to Villa Rosebud, we visited Kelingking Beach.
The deep blue ocean and steep cliffs were absolutely breathtaking. The scenery was even more beautiful than a phone wallpaper—so beautiful that it was impossible to forget.
But today, we had no mood to look back on yesterday’s beautiful scenery.
Even though only a few hours had passed since the accident.
We lost our passports!!!
At noon, we excitedly left Pantai Sanur and headed toward Villa Rosebud.
We had contacted our host in advance and received the address of the villa. Sitting on the bus, we were already imagining what the villa would look like and looking forward to the beautiful time we were about to have there.
But that excitement was shattered very quickly.
While changing buses, we lost the backpack we were carrying with us.
Inside were almost all of our most important belongings:
All our cash, two passports, a Visa card, and a tablet.
The moment we realized what had happened, I could see the panic in my partner’s eyes.
She hurried off the bus and immediately took a taxi back to the transfer point.
But even though less than 40 minutes had passed, the place was already completely empty.
We asked people nearby. We asked passing Grab drivers. We went to the police station to report the loss. We even followed the bus driver back to their headquarters to ask whether anyone had found our bag.
But again and again, our hope disappeared.
Our hearts sank to the bottom.
After hours of running around, we finally arrived at Villa Rosebud after 10 p.m.
At that moment, I thought the trip we had been looking forward to had been completely ruined.
But later, I realized—
Sometimes a misfortune can turn into a blessing.
Because on that very day, we met someone we had never met before.
A kind, beautiful, and incredibly warm Irish lady. 🇮🇪

Den Klang des Dachungels, an dessen Rand Villa Rose liegt, wird man nicht vergessen. Auch ist es außergewöhnlich, ein so herrschaftliches Gebäude bewohnen zu dürfen. Es ist sehr authentisch und hochwertig eingerichtet, man hat viele Handtücher, sogar Bademäntel und Duschgel zur Verfügung. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet.
Uns war nicht bewusst, dass wir NICHT die Bambusvilla gebucht hatten. Die ersten fünfzig Bilder der Anzeige zeigen nur diese. Wir haben also zu fünft gebucht und uns war nicht klar, dass wir die riesige, aber leider sehr dunkle Villa ohne Möglichkeit, miteinander zu essen, bekommen würden. For 2 Tage war das okay. Für den Supernarkt benötigt man ein Auto. Leider haben wir am Abend auch fußläufig trotz Googlemaps in 25min Entfernung in Sukawati kein einziges geöffnetes Restaurant gefunden.
Mit dem Auto auf dem Hof zu parken benötigt gute Fahrkenntnisse. Und leider fanden wir auch schade, dass das Anwesen im Tal, also tiefer als das Dorf, liegt, was man aus der Anzeige auch nicht hervor ging.
Zwei Wochen zuvor waren wir schon nahe sukawati. Wir empfehlen den Besuch des Hidden Canyon.

An absolutely magical stay at Villa Rose
I stayed at Villa Rose for three nights and absolutely adored every moment. This beautiful bamboo villa located on the banks of the river wok, was the perfect little slice of heaven — peaceful, private and surrounded by such a gorgeous, tranquil atmosphere. It was exactly what I needed.
After busy days volunteering, I looked forward to coming home to the peace & serenity of Villa Rosebud and being greeted by the beautiful young girls neighbouring this stunning property.
But what truly made my stay so special was Ellie, the host. She is one of the kindest, most gracious and genuinely thoughtful people I have had the pleasure of meeting. I mentioned that I was volunteering at an orphanage nearby, and Ellie incredibly generously donated children’s toys for me to take to the little ones. It was such a beautiful and unexpected gesture, and one that meant so much to me.
Villa Rose isn’t just somewhere to stay — it feels like a little sanctuary, and Ellie’s warmth and generosity make it even more special. The local Indonesian staff were also such beautiful, kind , friendly helpful people, nothing was too much trouble for them.
I left after three nights feeling completely relaxed, grateful and a little sad to say goodbye. I would 100% stay here again and couldn’t recommend Villa Rosebud highly enough to anyone looking for somewhere peaceful, beautiful and genuinely special in Celuk.
