Welcome to Frosty Pines—a freshly renovated, cozy 2-bedroom cabin tucked just off Donner Pass. This charming retreat is your perfect summer basecamp for mountain adventures. Surrounded by towering pines and just steps from the Yuba River, enjoy hiking, swimming, fishing, and exploring nearby trails. Grill on the deck, stargaze by night, and head out to Donner Lake or the Pacific Crest Trail for unforgettable days in the Sierra.
This little family cabin is right off of I-80, 10 minutes before the top of Donner Summit in small community called Kingvale. Whether you're hitting the slopes at Sugar Bowl in the winter or exploring scenic hiking trails, this cabin is the ideal base for outdoor adventures.
The Cabin:
- One bedroom (Queen) + Loft (2x Full)
- One bathroom
- Cozy wood fireplace for chilly evenings + wood
- Heated floors
- Fully-equipped kitchen
- Air conditioning and heating for year-round comfort
- Outdoor propane grill and chairs
- Family-friendly atmosphere
- Complimentary snow shoes and hiking poles
- Ski / Snowboard holders
Location:
- Under 10 minutes to Sugar Bowl, Boreal, and Soda Springs ski resorts.
- 8 minutes to Royal Gorge, largest x-country ski resort in North America.
- 8 minutes to the Pacific Crest Trail and various hiking trail heads
- South Yuba River only steps away at the end of the driveway
- 13 minutes to Donner Lake
- 15 minutes to Truckee
- 30 minutes to King’s Beach @ Lake Tahoe
WINTER ACCESS: DONNER PASS IS SERIOUS.
1. The driveway is NOT PLOWED
There is a short 200ft walk to the cabin, typically in packed down snow. This is not a plowed road to a large condominium, this is a 1930s cabin in the depths of Donner Pass. Despite this, expect to see lots of families at the other cabins nearby :).
2. The booking has flexible refunds up to 24 hours in advance for a reason!
While the cabin has electricity and running water and great access to I-80, it is imperative that you check the weather forecast and plan accordingly. Please try to use proper judgement.
3. When it snows, expect I-80 to SHUTDOWN
We are located close to the top of the pass; you will be able to get out (most likely), but they will close traffic coming to the cabin if the roads are dangerous.
More detailed information is available upon booking regarding parking and additional instructions. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. The cabin is a wonderful family spot and winters are a blast.

Frosty Pines was perfect for our family of 5. The host was super responsive and welcoming. We skied at Soda Springs, about an 8 minute drive. We definitely will stay here again.

I highly recommend this nice cabin if you’re looking for a little get away ! Lovely area great host with great communication and the cabin had every amenity that would be needed loved the heated floors !

Great hospitality and communication. We enjoyed our stay at Frosty Pines. It was well equipped, conveniently located and a nice, relaxing getaway.
