The location of Horse and Farrier Barn was spot on. It was around a 30‑minute drive to Grasmere in the morning (a little longer on the way back through a very busy Ambleside), and less than 10 minutes to Cartmel, which made everything we had planned easy to get to. The village itself was lovely and quiet, with friendly neighbours and a great pub just down the road.
The property is gorgeous and had plenty of space for the eight of us, plus a baby and a small dog. The kitchen was really well equipped and the dining table easily sat us all, which was perfect for meals together. The utility room was a particularly useful extra. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated, the beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms felt like a real treat. The garden was also lovely – if it hadn’t been for Storm Dave, we would definitely have spent more time out there.
We highly recommend staying at Horse and Farrier Barn. Huge thanks to our hosts – the information provided was incredibly helpful, access to the property was straightforward, and communication ahead of arrival was excellent. We visited the Lakes to celebrate my mum’s 70th birthday, and the property was perfect for a large family group looking to relax and enjoy the area. A special mention to the three sheep in the field next door, who we could see from the windows – definitely say hello!
