Lovely traditional pub, handy location for exploring the area.
The room allocated was approx 6 inches from the road and faced a school entrance. Privacy glass and secondary glazing would have helped. The bed was rounded at the edges and you felt like you were going to fall out if you moved. The continental breakfast was disappointing.

This was my first visit to the Red Lion since the change of ownership, and my word, what a transformation. I arrived at 8pm on a Saturday and unusually, in my experience, the car park was virtually full. Inside the pub was busy and buzzing, and was warm and cheerful, yet still retaining the “olde worlde” vibe. The staff (and there were plenty of them) were warm, friendly and attentive. Service was exceptional.
Beer battered fish and chips were excellent, and the mushy peas would put many a northern chippie to shame!
I was shown to a room in which I’d stayed previously, and again the transformation was jaw dropping; a complete floor-up renovation, fantastic décor with oriental/ deco inspired furniture, etc. Very comfortable, very warm and cosy and the shower was now behaving perfectly!
Breakfast – buffet and full English – showed promise, and indeed delivered with locally sourced produce and perfect soft scrambled eggs.
All in all a very enjoyable stay at what is not merely an improvement, but an excellent village pub in its own right and all achieved within the footprint and framework of the original building – not a conservatory in sight!
Literally, nothing wrong at all.

The quality of the rooms was very good. Food offered was ok but expensive.
We understand that the business had changed hands since we booked our rooms and they no longer were offering a cooked breakfast because they were trying to turn a failing business around. We understand that but we should have been informed about the changes and if anything needs to change is that customers should be fully informed of all changes and unfortunately we weren’t until we spoke to the couple at the end of our stay

Breakfast was adequate, not exciting. No hot option. One pot of coffee for two just sufficient for cup each, no top up offered. Room itself was very clean , well furnished with adequate extras.
Blind to main road fixed, unable to completely drop. Didn't exactly feel welcomed by the staff/managers/owners, more interested in serving the regulars. Evening meal served and then asked within a few minutes was everything OK before we had even had a chance to start. Subsequently disappeared. At the end of the meal when asking for feedback be prepared to listen. 3 medium rare steaks were in parts blue, one medium steak was most definitely medium rare. We were trying to provide feedback to the chef. He needs to learn the palm and fingers rule. Yes, we do know , both son in laws are chefs.
