It was good to try somewhere other than hotels and really helpful to stay at a local persons home so you have a better perspective of the area than a hotel or guide might give. It’s definitely more authentic to stay in a typical home. The cold water machine was a really good addition as tourists obviously can’t just drink the tap water so it’s a pretty important point that it was considered.
I didn’t recognise the apartment we had from the pictures. I think in my head we were staying in the blue, green or yellow rooms but when we arrived we were in a predominantly pink space. It was very dark until you opened all the curtains and turned on all the lights but I guess that also kept it cool. I was awake early each morning as the veranda was open to the kitchen area below so you could hear pots and pans being washed and general family life happening. I’m up early at home, but I try to rest on holiday!
