Disappointing for the price.
The apartment was only a short walk to both Trou de Douce beach and a restaurant. It was clean and had a large living area and lounge room and a spacious terrace. The bedrooms were a good size.
Parking was an issue as the space doubled as an outdoor area for the family on the ground floor so every time we parked it felt like we were intruding into their personal space. We also found reversing the car into the space quite difficult.
Large numbers of ants were coming from two different holes, one underneath the bath and one from the bathroom wall. Fortunately there was insect repellent that we used on a number of occasions to keep them at bay.
The dining room setting was outdoor furniture which was quite uncomfortable to sit at for a meal.
All lights were long fluorescent tubes which were really too bright, particularly in the bedroom which didn't have bed lamps.
Many of the windows and door frames still had the manufacturer stickers on them which wasn't a good look as it gave the impression that the host couldn't be bothered to remove them.
There was a large gas bottle directly under the stove. While Mauritian building laws may allow gas bottles within a dwelling this appeared to present an unacceptable risk to occupants where a leak could cause asphyxiation or an explosion if the stove was being used. We are not sure if there was a fire extinguisher.
The description on the website ticked that the apartment was semi-detached. This is incorrect. It was the second floor of a building. It ticked that it had accessible parking which it didn't. It ticked that it had a garden view. Since there wasn't a garden this is also incorrect. It did have a view from the terrace of a couple of palm trees and the building on the other side of the street.
The apartment had a vacant block in front of it that was filled with a mound of rubbish and surrounded by weeds while the access stairs to the accommodation looked down on a full array of junk including old tyres and drums of various sizes.
