I had the pleasure of staying at Tiny House Talalla for 10 weeks while volunteering with WeCare 🐕 and it truly became a home away from home. It was every bit as beautiful as the photos—if anything, even better in person!
The property is thoughtfully designed and has everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped, making it easy to cook meals, the bed is incredibly comfortable with full mosquito netting for peaceful nights, and the bathroom is modern. I also really appreciated the outdoor hanging rails, which were perfect for drying beach towels and swimwear.
One of the highlights is the gorgeous tropical garden surrounding the house. Waking up to lush greenery, monkeys playing in the trees, and other local wildlife made every day feel special. The outdoor seating area is the perfect place to relax with a coffee or a book ( and a dog!)
The three resident dogs who live upstairs absolutely stole my heart. They love popping by for a quick hello—or settling in for a snooze on the floor if you don’t mind the company!
The location couldn’t be better. It’s tucked away on a quiet road just a few minutes’ walk from Talalla Beach, which is one of the most beautiful, peaceful, and unspoilt beaches I’ve visited in Sri Lanka. There’s also a handy mini market nearby for essentials, and the lovely Sunshine Restaurant serves delicious food and even offers a convenient laundry service.
Also the proximity to WeCare’s Mutts Cafe 🐕 ☕️ is excellent!! Just a brief walk along the lovely beach. 🏝️ 🌊
The main road is only about a 10-minute walk away, where you can easily catch buses to Matara or Hiriketiya if you want more shopping, cafés, or nightlife.
Finally, the host was absolutely fantastic—warm, welcoming, and always available to answer questions or help with anything I needed throughout my stay.
I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend ten weeks.

Loved the resident dogs… obviously… they are gorgeous! Great facilities, good communication, clean, great decor. Would stay again for sure!

If you are a beach person or looking for somewhere off the beaten track away from the crowds. This is for you.
Tiny House is ideal for one person but would also easily accommodate two. It's not that tiny. Kitchen has a large fridge with a freezer compartment. A two ring gas burner and a small kitchen top oven. Ample water pressure from the taps and the shower.
There are two local shops on the very short walk to the beach, that can provide you with your basics. Also small local family run restaurants that serve a variety of food. There are two local businesses that provide a laundry service.
The beach is popular with tourists and locals. Very large beach with comparatively few people. So you definitely won't have to fight for a sun bed.
Around a 10 or 12 minute walk to the main road where there are more shops and a branch of the Bank of Ceylon which has a modern ATM. The Bank of Ceylon and the Peoples Bank don't charge for using their machines. The nearest town is Matara and buses are every couple of minutes and only cost 70 Sri Lankan rupees one way. The equivalent of 18 pence sterling. The trip takes around 15 minutes depending on the time of day.
Matara is a very large town and will have everything thing you will need. The best coffee shop is Barista opposite the bus station. Look out for the large orange signage.
Hope to return again this coming winter, 25/26 and will book Tiny House again if available.
