The home cooking is top quality; all from scratch, and most of the ingredients are from the garden. Unfortunately for me, I have recently received a diagnosis of leukemia, which interferes with proper digestion and assimilation - in other words, my appetite has shrunk to almost nothing and I could barely taste the wonderful offerings from the kitchen.
This is a true family homestead located walking distance to the beach in Kerala. If you're interested in how people grow food in sandy soil and reduce, reuse and recycle everything... If you want to know how really to conserve the available fresh water... If you want to experience awakening to chanting at dawn every day from the temple next door... Katadi Beach Homestays is for you.
As a person from the north, I did find it hard to acclimate to daytime temperatures and humidity. The power does go out at least daily, so think ahead and keep your devices charged, your laundry done, and do your best to use the power at low use times of day.
What I didn't like most was the total lack of street signs in any language either in town or at the beach, and ad I don't speak either Hindi or Malayalam, I was so grateful for my host's fluency in English.
