El Mambo Boutique Hotel

Nos gustó absolutamente todo. Quedamos totalmente enamorados de este hotel desde el momento en que entramos. El diseño y la decoración tienen un gusto exquisito y te hacen sentir como en casa desde el primer momento. Las habitaciones son grandes, cómodas y preciosas, y poder disfrutar de la terraza con jacuzzi fue un lujo increíble. El gym y la piscina le dan un puntazo más: hacer ejercicio vista mar y luego darte un baño refrescante no puede que mejorarte el día. Queremos destacar, además, la amabilidad y cortesía del personal, que son personas maravillosas y de gran corazón, siempre atentas y cercanas. De verdad, nos sobran las palabras para describir la experiencia en este hotel: ¡hizo que nuestra estancia en Las Terrenas fuera absolutamente inolvidable!

Beautiful property, plants everywhere and nice spacious design. Facing the sea and nearby to restaurants and beach area.

It’s smaller than I thought and on a busy street. The bathroom setup is slightly odd put clean and functional.

Loved the staff (they are always making sure you feel comfortable) and spaces. Everything is really boutique and well thought; the room was clean, bed was really comfortable and everything was done ahead of time; the pool was warm which for us was a great deal since that day was raining a little

I would say that maybe they can upgrade a little the breakfast. Cereal was a little old and some options are not as expected. Drinks are really good and coffee options were great.

El Mambo has the aesthetic of a property that might appear in Elle Deco or another high end design magazine. The airy open space downstairs complemented by an earthy colour tone and fabulous plants is stunning. Our king size room was generous with double height ceilings and the bed was very comfortable. We were left a nice note and bottle of wine on our second day. We did speak to the owner who was their for our first morning about the very high level of noise, she did suggest we could move to a smaller but darker room or go somewhere else but it was not clear if we would be refunded and our credit card had already been debited when we arrived rather than at check out. The noise was excessive as it was Independence day but as other reviews have indicated it is omni present - so maybe not the best option for a light sleeper. Las Terrenas was described by Vogue as the Tulum of 20 years ago- we wouldn't agree with this but the hotel is central with lots of good restaurants nearby and if you have a car, the fabulous of Corson and Bonita are 20 mins away.

Unfortunately, & despite the stunning interiors & many positive reviews, El Mambo did not meet our expectations in other aspects & seeing 28% rate drops since we booked, did not seem good value for money.The room despite being large did not have great storage, there was no long hanging for dresses or drawers- we appreciate they desire for a clean look, practicality also needs to be considered.The tiny balcony with the room was not really usable & potentially could have been improved with a small table & chairs. We asked for a sea view, which there was, v tricky to see through the vertical slats on the windows, which also seems to have hindered cleaning of the windows inside & out. We asked on our 4th day for the bed linen to be changed- we were told it had been, however we had a mark on the duvet cover at the bottom on the right side, when we returned that day the sheets and pillow cases had been changed but the duvet had simply been turned over- the mark remained all week. The bathroom also was not cleaned appropriately, the area around the basin was also not cleaned all week & although we had taken a lot of our own toiletries, shower gel was only replenished when we 'hid' the one that had been partly used. To get to the loo you have to walk in front of the open shower, as the drainage was blocked, this was unpleasant, as we had circa 2 inches of water remaining post each shower. If the shower area was properly cleaned - this would have been picked up. The pool was small so really a plunge rather than for swimming - the terrace did not have comfortable seating so we did not use as much as we might have. The roof terrace which has a gym, is not optimised, again it would have been great to have loungers and perhaps an honesty bar. Breakfast was disappointing & monotonous with tinned ham being used and cut directly into a palm. The ladies in the kitchen were sweet but maybe need coaching.
