Nice position - water views. The staff were great. They offered a buggy ride tour of the island including looking at the sharks near the harbour during fish cleaning time. We saw and learnt so much from their input.

The hotel was very accommodating. The resort we were staying in beforehand confirmed an early plane, and Avyanna staff very kindly changed the original booking we made for the arrival speedboat to an earlier time. They collected us from and dropped us off at the harbour in a buggy and also provided another room at check-out because our speedboat back to Malé was later in the afternoon.
There was some choice at breakfast and a chef prepared egg dishes to order. That was great.
We were given a family room, even though we hadn't booked this. We did have a big window, air conditioning and a balcony (although the balcony did not have a beach view, as we were shown on Booking.com).
The staff were helpful and friendly.
Avyanna guests can use umbrellas and deckchairs for free at Bikini Beach, but just make sure you get a good deal with this. Initially the guys who run the operation tried to give us a rusty, old, broken umbrella at the back because we weren't paying. We just asked again and told them what we wanted, and they then sorted this out.
Dhilakani restaurant is excellent, serving authentic dishes, is very reasonably priced and the owner was great. Boava, the hotel's restaurant, was also very good, and they served some great local fare.
Gulhi is in the middle of a land reclamation project. Most of the beaches have been destroyed in this process which will take years. The hotel cannot help this, but it seems a lot of the island does not care about cleanliness sadly (rubbish EVERYWHERE, sometimes piles of it, on the beaches and in the water at the harbour). Bikini beach is the only beach now that survives (although the water was lovely and clear on the day we used it). This also means the beach is no longer directly in front of the hotel (the land reclamation starts in front of the hotel).
Research the speedboat and ferry. We ended up paying $120 in total for return speedboat fares which the hotel organised. We wanted an easy option, but we discovered from some expats taking the same journey that they were paying considerably less.
Although we were placed in a bigger room, it wasn't what I had booked - and the balcony wasn't what I expected (although that could have been due to the land reclamation, on second thoughts). I felt the room was too big, and one side of the wardrobe doors didn't open properly, which meant it was extremely difficult to get clothes in and out of it. I didn't report this.
