I chose Fulidhoo Island because of its convenient location and easy access from the airport, as well as the abundance of stingrays and nurse sharks.
Villa Royal was an obvious choice thanks to its immediate proximity to Bikini Beach and the comfort of having hotel sun loungers and umbrellas right on the beach.
However, this was just the basic comfort. The island is small and full of life, and both its residents and the hotel staff offer an exceptional level of hospitality.
I was travelling alone and, to my surprise, I quickly felt as though I had arrived to visit friends.
I highly recommend taking part in as many of the outdoor activities offered by the hotel as possible.
I experienced everything I had wished for: swimming with nurse sharks and turtles, and admiring corals and Nemo fish. But I also experienced things I had never even dreamed of:
Seeing enormous sweetlips, watching a magnificent leopard shark accompanied by the sound of singing dolphins, swimming right in the middle of a huge pod of dolphins, playing hide-and-seek with a large octopus, tasting a freshly picked coconut, watching a giant turtle laying her eggs, enjoying a beautifully served lunch on a sandbank, paddleboarding above enormous stingrays, fishing beneath a breathtaking starry sky while listening to the muezzin’s call to prayer, and watching in amazement as a baby shark devoured a mackerel hanging from the fishing hook.
My heartfelt thanks go to the manager, Vinod, and the entire hotel team for giving me such wonderful moments that I will never forget.

I loved my stay at Royal Villa! The staff is amazing and so friendly, the location is perfect. So close to the bikini beach and close to the pier. They took us to and from the pier in a little cart. The restaurant attached to the hotel is also fantastic. We ate there every meal. Breakfast was included and great. Loved everything!

Proximity to the beach
View from the balcony is decent. The prayers from mosque through loudspeakers was extremely annoying, especially as early in the morning as 4.30am. It was too loud.
