We had the most wonderful Halloween weekend at Gin & Toffee, staying in an adorable shepherd’s hut/refurbished train carriage with our two dogs. We were well informed before our stay, exceptionally well accommodated for and made to feel very welcome. We loved every minute!
The hosts were fantastic - friendly, generous, helpful and thoughtful. Parking was easy and the spacious site had secure fencing for our dogs. The carriage was beautifully maintained, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we could need. Lovely little touches made it so cosy! The spacious, super comfortable bed gave us possibly the best night's sleep we've had in ages. It was warm and well lit and the kitchen, shower/toilet had everything we needed. A real home away from home!
The hot tub was fantastic and the main attraction for us! We were especially grateful that our host had started heating it before we arrived. Instructions, logs, kindling, newspaper and firelighters were provided. Allow around 3-4 hours to heat the water. There was also a barbecue which we look forward to using on a future visit!
The setting was enchanting, with sweeping views across farmland, hills and trees, chickens next door and plenty of open space. There were occasional planes overhead and distant sport-shooting but overall it was peaceful and perfect for a relaxing getaway.
We loved the 40min stroll into Thaxted through gorgeous countryside, woodland, hedgerows and farmland. The approach to Thaxted Parish Church was striking and the quaint town was charming to explore.
Check-in and check-out were easy and hassle-free. We came away refreshed, happy and already thinking about returning! A huge thank you to our hosts for making us feel so welcome and giving us a much-needed weekend to remember. We wholeheartedly recommend Gin & Toffee, especially for anyone looking for a cosy countryside escape with their dogs. We hope to see you again soon!

Hosts were just lovely in every way I asked for a non-slip mat for the shower and it was there within hours. The carriage fitments were very good, the bed extremely comfortable and the view of the fields (and the sheep) was like a painting.
It is very tiny: I wasn't quite prepared for just how small, but nothing can be done about that and having adjusted my ideas, it was lovely.

It was very clean inside and out, we were unsure of what to bring with us but inside had everything we needed from cooking and cleaning equipment, towels, cutlery and utensils.
It has a lovely view and is tucked away in a nice quiet part of an already quiet village.
Everyone we meet at the farm were really friendly.
Perfect place for a low maintenance getaway!
Gutted we couldn't stay for longer but hopefuly will in the future.
