About this villa rental

In April 2023, The Times selected El Olivo as one of the 21 most delightful villas in Andalusia. Since then, Las Negras and the Cabo de Gata Natural Park have gained even greater recognition, yet this special corner of the Mediterranean has preserved something that is increasingly difficult to find: nature, tranquillity and authenticity.

El Olivo enjoys a privileged position, nestled into the mountainside and perched above the charming village of Las Negras, with the Mediterranean stretching out in front of the house. From its many terraces, you can enjoy spectacular views of the sea, Cerro Negro and the volcanic landscape that characterises this coastline.

The house has been designed to make the most of outdoor living. Its different terraces allow you to find a sunny or shaded spot at any time of day, while the orientation and construction of the house help maintain a pleasantly cool atmosphere during the warmest months.

In the beautifully maintained garden, olive trees, orange trees and palm trees surround the infinity pool, from which you can gaze out over the Mediterranean while cooling off. It is a place to forget about the clock, read, relax, share a meal with friends or simply enjoy the scenery.

The villa has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. At the same time, the village is just a short distance away. You can walk down to Las Negras for a drink, dinner, fresh fish, its restaurants and bars, or simply for a stroll beside the sea.

Las Negras and Cabo de Gata

Las Negras has retained the character of a small fishing village and is now also one of the most appreciated places for those wishing to discover the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park.

Here, the Mediterranean has a very special character. The volcanic landscape, arid mountains, cliffs, small coves and crystal-clear waters create one of the most distinctive coastlines in Spain.

Directly opposite Las Negras rises the spectacular Cerro Negro, whose distinctive silhouette and geology are an inseparable part of the village landscape. Beyond the headland lies the famous Cala de San Pedro, accessible on foot or by boat and offering one of the most beautiful excursions in the area.

The crystal-clear waters and fascinating underwater world make this coastline ideal for diving, snorkelling, boating or simply swimming and enjoying the sea.

As evening falls, Las Negras takes on a different atmosphere. Its bars and restaurants offer a relaxed yet lively ambience, particularly during the summer months, when the village really comes to life.

A unique landscape in Andalusia

The province of Almería offers an extraordinary contrast between the Mediterranean and one of Europe's most arid landscapes. Cacti, palm trees, traditional cortijos, volcanic mountains and ravines meet a coastline of beaches, coves and dramatic cliffs.

The Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, a Biosphere Reserve, protects an area of exceptional natural and landscape value. It is a wonderful place for walking, discovering secluded beaches, boating, enjoying water sports or simply wandering along its paths and taking in the scenery.

From El Olivo, you can easily explore places such as Rodalquilar, La Isleta del Moro, Agua Amarga and San José, as well as numerous lesser-known beaches and coves.

It is also well worth visiting the Cortijo del Fraile, one of the most emblematic sites in the interior of the park and associated with the literary tradition that inspired Federico García Lorca's Blood Wedding.

Discover Andalusia

El Olivo is also an excellent base from which to explore other parts of Andalusia.

On a day trip, you can reach the province of Granada and visit Guadix and its cave dwellings, the Alpujarras, Sierra Nevada or Granada, with the historic Albaicín district and the extraordinary Alhambra.

But perhaps the best thing is not to make too many plans.

One of the great advantages of El Olivo is precisely the opportunity to spend a few days without needing to go anywhere: wake up with the Mediterranean before you, have breakfast on a terrace, take a swim in the pool, relax beneath an olive tree and walk down to the village at sunset.

A place to discover Cabo de Gata, but also a place simply to enjoy the pleasure of being there.

Fabulous spacious villa with a lovely pool and amazing views. Very comfy large bed. Great communication with Angel. Steep 1 mile walk back to the villa from the town. Unsuitable for toddlers or elderly as there’s a lot of steps in the villa and low walls around the terraces. Good mix of restaurants in town. Fantastic rest after 4 busy days in Cordoba & Granada.

We loved our stay. The house is very stylish and comfortable. It’s a walk down and then back up from the village but it means you earn your dinner. This was our first visit to this area and it was great. A car enables you to explore the many little villages and coves, and it’s good to get out on the water, as well as in it. Angel was fab, really kind and helpful. He has built something rather wonderful. It’s a little maze of a house but that adds to its charm, as does the way he’s designed the interiors. We had a truly memorable time and would love to come back.

The villa is outstanding and a lot bigger than the pictures show. Angel is always on hand if needed. A beautiful home.
