About this cabin rental

Located in beautiful Highland County, Virginia nestled in a grove of sugar maples between Back Creek and Little Mountain. Wake up to valley views which are likely to include deer grazing in the meadow, hummingbirds at the feeder, or a Bald eagle or great blue heron fishing along the creek. This 28 acre property includes a sunny meadow with beautiful mountain views, picnic table by the creek and a mountain to climb!

The tastefully decorated cabin includes a master bedroom with queen bed, a second bedroom with two twin beds, one bathroom with laundry, a fully equipped kitchen, open living/dining area with cozy wood stove, a covered porch and a deck with hot tub and outdoor dining area with a gas grill. At the Cabin on Back Creek, you can enjoy the stars which light up the night sky, bird-watching, walking, or just relaxing with a book in the hammock, on the porch, or on the deck. In the early spring, we make maple syrup at the sugar house located adjacent to the Cabin. You are invited to watch (and smell!) the process of turning 50 gallons of sugar water into a gallon of pure maple syrup - or you can help us if you would like!

There are a variety of hiking, hunting and fishing opportunities nearby, and access to both the George Washington and Monongahela National Forests is nearby.

The Cabin is located 16 miles from the quaint town of Monterey. Walking tours, galleries and shops, restaurants, beautiful mountain views, and friendly people make Highland County special all year round. Throughout the year, Monterey hosts numerous special events, the largest of which is the Highland County Maple Festival on the second and third weekends in March.

Located about 30 miles from Snowshoe Ski Resort, skiing, snowboard and tubing are available in season. Also nearby is the narrow-gauge railroad at Cass, West Virginia and the National Radio Observatory at Green Bank, WV.

Twenty miles south of the Cabin on Back Creek in neighboring Bath County are the towns of Warm Springs and Hot Springs, home to the historic Homestead resort and the Jefferson Pools mineral baths (currently being restored). These neighboring towns offer fine dining, golf, skiing/snowboarding, shopping, antiquing, chamber music at Garth Newel and a variety of art galleries.

The Cabin on Back Creek offers a peaceful retreat, surrounded by a variety of recreational opportunities. The Cabin is located on a working farm. Please be aware that we do offer tours (and sales) at our sugar house which is sited adjacent to the Cabin. There may be some activities there during your stay. In the fall, we make apple butter, and in the spring we make maple syrup. Bottling our syrup is a (sporadic) year-round activity

What a great cabin. It is very out of the way with no cell phone reception, so be prepared with written directions and/or download offline maps. It is very clean and well-stocked. No phone chargers, so make sure to bring your own. It is very peaceful. We did hear the neighbor's dogs Sat afternoon but it didn't bother us. It was clean and comfy. The master bed was comfy but a bit noisy when adjusting. The maple syrup was delicious. There is a nice short walk around the property where they mow a path. Please note that it is not easy to get down the hill to the creek. It's not impossible, just not easy.

The cabin was beautiful!!! It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The hot tub at night under the stars was amazing...most any of us have ever seen. The owners responded to questions quickly. They put together a cute binder with lots of local information. The view of the creek was beautiful. I can't say enough great things about our experience here!! Hopefully we will make it back one day.

Valerie and Pat were extremely accomodating and made us feel right at home. They took the time to showcase their syrup making processes. The cabin sits right on the creek and there was a nice big field behind for exploring with our little one. Great weekend escape. Thank you two, again.

Our weekend getaway in the cabin at Back Creek Farms was absolutely fantastic. Enjoyed every second of our stay in the cozy cabin along Back Creek. Perfect spot to simply sit on the porch and listen to the creek flow by. Every possible need one could think of was provided for and it’s a must stay during the Highland County Maple Festival!
