About this house rental
Woodland Barn is a converted stable and hayloft with far reaching views looking out over the River Severn and across the Vale towards Westbury-on-Severn.
It’s especially popular with couples looking for a few days away with their dogs, but it also works well for small families and friends, particularly during school holidays.
Inside, you’ll find exposed beams, oak floors, underfloor heating and an electric log burner, with a private hot tub and enclosed outdoor space with a lawn.
Woodland Barn is also set up with energy use in mind, with solar panels, battery storage and air-source heat pumps helping to run the property.
Inside Woodland Barn
Woodland Barn is a split-level property arranged over three levels. There are two short staircases inside, each with six steps, so it’s worth bearing this in mind if stairs are difficult for anyone in your group.
The open-plan living space has comfortable seating, a Smart TV, books, board games and puzzles, so there’s plenty to do if you’re having a quieter day indoors.
The electric log burner has a realistic flame effect and two heat settings. We really like the way it changes the feel of the room in the evening, especially once the light starts to drop outside.
French doors open onto the terrace and bring in the views, which are one of the things we love most about the Barn.
The kitchen is well equipped for meals, with modern appliances, a coffee machine and a dining area for breakfast, dinner or a drink at the end of the day.
There are two bedrooms: one king with an en-suite and one twin with use of the family bathroom.
Private hot tub and outdoor space
Outside, you’ll have your own enclosed garden with a lawn, private terrace, seating, charcoal BBQ and far-reaching views across the River Severn and Vale.
The private hot tub has its own air-source heat pump, which helps reduce the energy used to keep it warm.
Before every stay, the hot tub is cleaned, fully drained and refilled with fresh water, with a new filter fitted and heated ready for your arrival.
It’s a lovely place to come back to after a long walk or a day out exploring.
Dogs are properly welcome here
Woodland Barn is genuinely dog friendly, not just dog tolerant.
Dogs stay free, and we provide bowls, blankets, towels, poo bags, ID tags and a handmade tug toy, so there’s less for you to pack.
The enclosed garden makes things easier too, and there are plenty of good walks nearby.
Exploring the Forest of Dean
Woodland Barn is well placed for walking, cycling and scenic drives, with plenty of viewpoints and woodland routes nearby.
The Wye Valley is within easy reach for canoeing, paddleboarding and riverside walks, while other local days out include Go Ape, mountain biking, caves, wildlife attractions, heritage sites and small Forest towns and villages.
There are also plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants within driving distance.
What we love about Woodland Barn
What we love most about Woodland Barn is the view. We honestly think it’s one of the best in the Forest of Dean.
There’s something about opening the doors in the morning and looking out over the River Severn, with the Vale stretching away towards Westbury-on-Severn.
We also like the contrast between the Barn’s older character and the newer additions. The solar panels, battery storage and air-source heating help with energy use, while the electric log burner gives the room a warm evening glow without needing a traditional fire.
It’s a comfortable place to spend a few days, head out into the Forest with the dogs, come back for a soak in the hot tub and settle in for the evening.
