About this villa rental

A 200 year old traditional Alentejano farmhouse on a 540ha working Cork Farm, with new swimming pool is available for weekends and short term lets. The farmhouse has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room with open fireplace, kitchen & a terrace with spectacular views over the surrounding plains.
Situated in beautiful countryside of cork trees, olive groves and vineyards. In the foothills of the Serra D’Ossa 20km south of Estremoz and 35km west of Evora. Ideal for sightseeing in a scenic and historic part of Portugal. Within easy reach, by motorway, of Lisbon 2hrs and Spain 1hr. The farm itself offers good opportunities for country walks, bird watching and quiet country life. Historical tours of Evora can also be arranged through a private guide.
There are a myriad of activities to enjoy on the farm. For the walkers or mountain bikers there are kilometers of footpaths around the 540 hectare farm for you to explore and for those wishing to venture further afield, the nearby peaks offer unrivalled views of the surrounding countryside. Serra d’Ossa lies at 500 metres above sea level and boasting one of the driest climates in Europe. The absence of light pollution makes this an astronomers’ paradise.
Bird watches can enjoy seeking out over 70 species of birds in the unique habitat provided by the cork forest, several of our past guests are members of the RSPB and have made lists of the birds they have seen / heard. Here is a list of a few: White Stork, Booted Eagle, Red Kite, Kestrel, Cuckoo, Tawny Owl, Hoopoe, Red-Rumped Swallow, Great Bustard, Little Bustard and Bee Eater. Visitors to the local damn include black winged stilts and the occasional avocet. Very occasionally, bustards can be seen in the lower plains.
Within a one-hour drive from the farm, you can also explore nearby towns including Evora (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Estremoz famed for its Saturday morning market, Vila Viçosa with its two royal palaces, Reguengos and even neighbouring Spain.
We offer guided walks in the cork forest.

Apart from a serious concern that I’ll address below, we enjoyed our stay at Paul’s villa overall. It was a relaxing break in the middle of our vacation and a welcome change from the bigger cities we had been visiting. The villa is beautiful inside and out, with lovely rooms, outdoor space, and a peaceful setting. We really enjoyed spending time with the kittens!Paul was helpful during our stay. He kindly offered to make dinner reservations for us while we were driving in, which was much appreciated after a long travel day. We also appreciated his recommendations for nearby towns and places to visit. Our main concern, however, is something we think future renters should be aware of. After we provided our passport information for Portugal’s mandatory guest registration system, Paul used our information to look us up personally online. We found this invasive, as those details were provided for legal check-in requirements, not personal research. On the second day of our stay, Paul mentioned that he knew personal info about us, specifically that my girlfriend was into yoga. When asked how he knew, he said he had found it “online.” This would have taken serious digging to find, and a level of personal research we consider inappropriate. Rather than learning this through genuine conversation or interest in us as guests, he researched us online using information we were required to provide. Overall, the property is beautiful but this experience made us uncomfortable.

Our accommodations were wonderful! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a few meals in, our beds were comfortable, the view from the patio and pool deck were amazing, and our host was kind, helpful with knowledge of the area, and more than accommodating to our needs. We loved our stay and would stay again!

This was a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing location in the Portuguese countryside. There was room enough for two couples to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Paul was a very helpful and accommodating host.
