About this apartment rental
Apartment is located in a quiet part of the old town, but at the same time not far from all of the Old Riga entertainment and recreational destinations.
The views from the apartment allow you to observe a surviving section of a medieval fortification wall that has been restored in 80ties, St. Jacobs Church, small, but enlightened fragment of Saeima (Latvian Parlament), Dome Cathedral, depending on wich way you lookout.
For centuries the space was used as an attic warehouse with built-in wooden lifting wheel for moving goods up and down. It has been refurbished in 90ties into a three-bedroom living space but has kept the rustic character of an original warehouse.
Historically building belonged to a land property with 6 residential buildings constructed in the 14-19 century. Of which the 14th century stone building with our attic apartment is the only one that survived from the medieval Russian trade settlement. In 1537 when it re-appeared in Riga real estate book entries, it was marked as Ernst van Mengden's residential building. Mengdens (German: von Mengden) is an ancient Baltic German family known in Livonia since the 15th century and was recorded in Vidzeme and Estonia Knighthood's matricula.

We had a great stay here, it was a beautiful property in a great location. It was clean and bright, well designed and renovated. There were a few coffee pods for the machine, and some basics in the cupboards. Theres a shop nearby for milk etc. and the cafe behind (Little Lane) was handy, with lovely service and good food. They even left us a discount code! Theres a bedroom and bathroom on one floor, and then the kitchen/sitting/dining plus second bedroom and bathroom on the next floor. A note that the third bed is in a loft semi-mezzanine above the second bedroom, up a steep ladder-like stair. This was fine for us but worth being aware of. The hosts had thought of what people would need, and we could tell they wanted everything to be right. Thanks so much!

For a party of 5 a great appartment, clean and at a top location. Communication with owners was very supportive and posiitive. The only remark we have is that after one warning of leaving a in between door open for too long apparently, it was immediately followed by another warning with measurements. Not very symphetatic
