About this apartment rental

Punta Nera is a small and idyllic hamlet located on the edge of the rocky peninsula of Monte Argentario. The estate consists of a main building with three holiday apartments and a small villa. From the communal gardens, adorned with bougainvillea and characteristic umbrella pine trees, there are wonderful views over the pretty coastal town of Porto Santo Stefano and out across the sea towards the islands of Giglio and, on clear days, also Gianutri, two islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. This is the perfect place for anyone who enjoys spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Each accommodation also has its own terrace from which to take in the special atmosphere of this setting. The location also offers direct access to the sea: on the harbour side a steep staircase cut into the rocks leads down to a small stone jetty, while on the southern side steps descend to a hidden free beach.

The lively centre of Porto Santo Stefano is only about 2 km away and offers a wide selection of restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Ferries to the nearby islands of Giglio and Gianutri also depart from here. The charming coastal town of Porto Ercole can be reached in around 15 minutes, and the drive alone is worth it for the views along the coast. Characterised by imposing Spanish fortresses dating back to the 16th century, a picturesque old town with small piazzas and cobbled alleys, and attractive botanical gardens, it is a wonderful place to explore. Another highlight is the lagoon of Orbetello. Stretching over more than 1500 hectares, this beautiful natural area is a paradise for birdwatchers and offers the chance to see rare species including white herons and pink flamingos.

About the villa

Attico is a wonderful first-floor holiday apartment in the main house, perfect for a romantic stay for a couple. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors open onto a spacious roof terrace, offering a lovely place to relax, enjoy meals outdoors and take in the sweeping sea views and spectacular sunsets. Inside, the bright coastal-inspired interior with high-quality furnishings creates a fresh and welcoming atmosphere.

There is no pool.

In Porto Santo Stefano, 2km away there is a public swimming pool.

From the gardens of Punta Nera there is access to a small public stony beach. It is not well known to the public and is therefore quiet.

To one side about 20 steps lead down the cliff to a large terraced area which has a couple of sun beds. From here there are incredible, open views of the port town across the bay and to the other side the main land can be seen on clear days across the water.

There is also a second path down the cliff to the water edge. From the gardens, there are about 50 steep steps down the cliff face to the sea which surrounds the outcrop of land on which Punta Nera is located. There is some passing boat traffic so care needs to be taken in the water.

Laura met us at the property and we were wowed by the 180 view of the sea. The grounds of the property are like being in a park. We were the only ones at the compound and we felt like we had our own personal space. You were behind gates that secure the property and make it very private. The apartment itself is well appointed and very comfortable. The balcony has enough room for a very comfortable cocktail or dinner party. The proximity to town is very close and the town itself is very quaint. We did drive completely around the island on some uncharted roads. I would highly recommend this place. Don’t let it get away. This was one stop on our two month journey through Tuscany and Cinque Terre.
