Beware of excess fees outside of the booking

The property is in a great location close to the beach and a local supermarket. It is about 15 minutes walk from the train station and the bus stop is outside. It is a very small but cute seaside town. The cottage looks cute from the outside.

The general condition of the property is quite poor, the items and the beds are fairly worn and old. It might be relevant to note that it is not an entirely private back garden, but you are effectively in the front garden of the host who lives next door. I made a non-refundable reservation for the property but after paying received a message from the host to say that I have to pay 8EURO per bed (3 beds) in order to have duvet covers and pillow cases and that I would need to give a cheque on arrival. I tried to backtrack and ask to cancel the booking, but I had made a non-refundable booking, so obviously non-refundable. I do not have a chequebook, so ignored the cheque on arrival part. On arrival I was told I had to give 100EURO as a cash deposit (despite having paid in full for the property). I later realised this was outside Booking.com terms and conditions, but as I was on my own with 3 children, I could only agree to the requirements. On arrival the host told me there would be a 30 EURO cleaning fee and 10 EURO charge fee for gas and electricity (all I later realised outside booking.com terms and conditions). I told the host I would clean the property to avoid the fee. Upon check-out, the host undertook a 10-minute 'OFSTED' style appraisal of my cleaning, which included checking through all the cupboards and looking in the bins to see if I had done a good enough job cleaning. She and her daughter became very aggressive when I told her I had tried my best to clean the property with 3 children. They tried to find any problem with my cleaning and it became apparent that they would find any excuse to charge me for cleaning (which they do themselves and do not outsource). Problems with my cleaning included crumbs under a mat on the table, a scrap of food on the table in the garden and a piece of rubbish in the bin! In summary, a highly stressful encounter. I do not think that this property is suitable for families or for non-french speakers.

Dans le centre ville, tres facile d'accès Les propriétaires sont très gentils

La litterie n'est pas agréable, le fonctionnement de la douche, de la salle de bain, n'est pas très pratique, manque d'ustensiles de cuisine, le divan est inconfortable, il y a une petite évolution a faire niveau confort du lieu. Relativement bruyant, donne sur la chaussée, et beaucoup de travaux aux alentours malheureusement (pas de chance pour nous, je ne peux pas blâmer la propriétaire) Pas spécialement de place de parking, nous avons dû bouger plusieurs fois notre voiture, peu de places gratuites.
