A more thorough description is needed
I first would like to say that the scores I posted are misleading as we never actually stated there.
My oldest brother who lived in Florida died two days before we were to arrive at this property ( we were in London). I was really looking forward to getting to the property as I needed to grieve in peace. The fiasco started as we hired a taxi to take us to the property. The driver spent an hour trying to find it per the instructions given. We called the number given for help and the fellow on the line was of no assistance. We finally talked with a woman walking her dog and she knew where the property was. Finally, we arrive and I couldn’t get the key lock to work. It was cold, rainy, and exhausting. I felt like screaming at this point. A $200.00 dollar taxi ride later we arrived at the travelodge in Macclesfield for our three day stay. I notified booking.com who notified the owner. I wasn’t really expecting a total refund but thought I might get some money back The homeowner said no and further stated that we knew that this was a country house and if we chose to stay in town at the travelodge that was on us. I think what I’m upset about is the tone of the response and perhaps, the loss of my brother is coloring this whole thing. I’m an American as well and when you say a country house I had no idea it was so far away. The owners idea of a country house isn’t ours. We are traveling around the UK with no car due to our advanced age. How would I have been able to know to take groceries etc… with me because there is no delivery service to that area. I don’t even know how would have been found to be picked up. My point is the description of the property needs to be more thorough with better directions and people on the help line that can actually help you. You need to write caveats that address needs for those who may be traveling without a car. Luckily, there was a nice pub near the travelodge that treated us well as did the staff of the travelodge. There you have it. It was a frustrating process during a very sad time in my life.
