What a truly special place to escape from the world for a while — a beautiful, peaceful farmhouse surrounded by fields of sunflowers, with the unforgettable experience of watching a total solar eclipse from the terrace. It felt like something out of a dream!
We stayed for four nights as a group of 13, and the house was the perfect place for us to spend time together. Before and after the eclipse, we also had great fun exploring the local town, which had plenty of character and was a lovely complement to the peacefulness of the house.
The house itself is full of charm and character. It is spacious, clean and tastefully furnished, with comfortable beds, modern bathrooms and plenty of room for a large group. We particularly enjoyed eating together around the long table and relaxing on the terrace. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, with sunflower fields, fresh vegetables from the garden, (an unexpected treat) wonderful dark skies and an abundance of wildlife. We loved watching the birds, deer and butterflies around the property, which made the setting feel wonderfully alive. Watching the eclipse from the back terrace, surrounded by sunflowers, was an unforgettable experience.
The nearby railway line was an unexpected bonus for the train enthusiasts in our group, who thoroughly enjoyed watching the trains go by! (These did not intrude on the peace)
The hosts were very responsive and dealt with a couple of minor issues quickly and helpfully.
A truly memorable stay in a beautiful and peaceful place — made even more magical by the sunflowers, the wildlife, the trains and, of course, the eclipse. We would happily return.
There are a few small things that could make the property even better for larger groups. It was very hot during our stay, so having a fan in every bedroom would have been useful. A second fridge would also be helpful for a house aimed at larger groups, and a kettle would be a welcome addition for British guests. Some of us also found the pillows less comfortable than we would have liked.
These are minor points, though, and did not detract from what was a fantastic stay. We loved the house and its setting so much that, apart from exploring the town and occasional trips to the supermarket, we hardly wanted to leave!
