Having frequented some of the most prestigious luxury hotels worldwide, I found this establishment to be peerless in its understated elegance. The architectural dialogue between the modern design and the original 1911 merchant storehouse (Kura) is nothing short of masterly. In Room 302—a private villa once used by a footwear merchant—the loft bedroom is nestled within the ancient walls. To look up from the open-ceiling living area and see the original beams that have carried the weight of a century is truly moving. The hospitality was equally refined; the staff welcomed us with a grace that felt both professional and deeply personal, sharing the soul of Kawasaki’s history as they guided us to our quarters.
In a place where time seems to stand still, modern functionalism takes a backseat to historical integrity. The unique layout, such as the loft stairs, requires a certain physical engagement with the architecture. Yet, for a lover of authenticity, these are not inconveniences, but rather "rendezvous" with the building’s soul.
