Most uncomfortable bed
Not a lot, a very uncomfortable bed I wanted to return home rather than stay another night. A good quality mattress would greatly benefit the accommodation.
My wife and I arrived at this accommodation at 1800 on Friday 31st July after a long hot journey to find that the property was not ready for us to enter, the owners were still in the process of cleaning and we had to wait outside while they completed the task. This was a disappointing start consider that the accommodation should be available from 1600.
We found the outside seating and table had not been recently cleaned and there was an upturned plant pot with many cigarette butts from the previous occupants had not been cleared. (See photo)
Our main issue is that the bed was found to be extremely low, less than knee height and extremely uncomfortable. We
were unable to sleep due to the springs being felt directly in contact with the
body. We found that we rolled together into the middle of the bed and any slight movement disturbed the other to make any body movement undesirable. There was very little padding on top of the springs and one could feel the springs through the very thin protector. As a result neither of us got much sleep and we decided to leave the property early, and return home after a sleepless night.
When I examined the underframe the next morning I found that the longitudinal frame supporting the lats was actually broken and this would account for the bed making us roll into the middle. (See photo the broken bed)
I informed the owners and requested a full refund but they pointed out that our contract was with booking.com and not with them.
Our options were limited since most hotels were fully booked but I was very fortunate under the circumstances, to be able to book into nearby IHG Holiday Inn Northampton, where we were able to enjoy a restful stay. I made a formal complaint about this booking for which I paid £343.75 for three nights. The owner ignored our request and we finally claimed a refund from the credit card company.
