Unreliable Host, Stressful Experience

Horrible experience and rude host

This was one of the most stressful and disappointing accommodation experiences we have ever had. Our booking was cancelled by the host on the day of arrival, after we had already travelled a very long distance with our entire family. We flew from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, had a six-hour layover with a terminal change, and then another flight to Langkawi. By the time we arrived around 10:00 am, everyone was completely exhausted. We politely asked the host about early check-in. He stated that check-in was at 3:00 pm and that early check-in would cost RM50 per hour. We agreed to pay this. He then said it was a public holiday and that cleaners were delayed, which we understood. We only requested that he inform us as soon as the apartment was ready. Despite this, there was no communication from the host. At 11:55 am, we followed up to ask for an update. He then suddenly said we could check in if we paid RM150. Since we were still at the airport and unsure how long it would take to get a taxi and reach accommodation, we asked if we could check in from 1:00 pm and pay RM100 instead. This request seemed to upset him. Without any proper discussion, and despite our apologies and willingness to pay the extra amount he demanded, the host cancelled our booking outright and refused to reinstate it. This left our tired family stranded at the airport, caused immense stress, wasted several hours, and forced us to urgently find alternative accommodation. This behaviour was extremely unprofessional, rude, and inconsiderate, especially towards guests travelling internationally with family. We will never forget this experience and strongly advise future guests to be cautious. Reliability and basic courtesy were completely lacking.
