Nice place in some ways
1. Nice people working here, both the staff and the owner.
2. They give back all profits to the local community which makes guests feel nice about staying here.
3. Tent is big, clean and well set-up and there is plenty of space and privacy around.
1. Our room type was called “Luxury Tent.” But it wasn’t luxury since there is no toilet (you have to walk about 50 steps). And the shower (which is in the room) is a metal tub which makes a super-loud sound when you shower.
2. The location is really in the middle of nowhere, not close to the small city center near the entrance of the national park (it’s about a 20 – 30 minute drive to the park entrance).
3. Our major issue was with their financial policies:
a. The tent cost $108 US on Booking.com. But for that kind of money you’d expect an indoor toilet and better location.
b. On top of that, they charge a 3% credit card fee (which is common in Southern Africa and we didn’t mind). But then they use an exchange rate of 20 Kwacha to the US dollar. (The correct rate posted today was 19 Kwacha for one dollar, so they’re taking an additional 5% fee.)
c. I had asked to have an afternoon game drive before we arrived. Our 4x4 broke down coming and we arrived late. They told me that we had to pay for the drive which was $105 US per person (plus the $25 park entrance fee). I said this wasn’t fair and they quickly said that we should pay 50% of the cost. After some questions and a little more back and forth, we agreed that I would pay 25% of the cost as a penalty. I have no problem with this, but I think they should state when you ask for a game drive that you can’t cancel same-day or you have to pay a penalty. (I had sent a message through Booking.com about three hours before the game drive letting them know that our vehicle was broken.) Also, in the several messages we had sent each other prior to arrival they had never mentioned the game drive price. We stayed another night in a different, real luxury resort on the river right next to the park entrance and their game drive was $75 for a 4-hour afternoon drive. And I looked on AI and it says the average price for a game drive in the park is $60 - $75. That’s a huge difference from the $105 they charge.

A real treasure
The guesthouse is run by a NGO that invests all its profits in charitable projects. Emma, Sabine and their team of dedicated locals and volunteers will do their utmost to support you in every way during your stay, including organising game drives and visits to the local community. They will also treat you to affordable, delicious meals made from locally grown organic ingredients – another of their projects.
If you’re looking for an affordable alternative to the large commercial lodges that supports the local community, then you’ve come to the right place.

Great experience of a lovely guesthouse in African bush.
A wonderful and unique experience! A guesthouse in the bush that really feels like Africa with a huge baobab tree in the middle so beautiful that it looks like a fairy tale. The place is really neat and clean with beautiful and comfortable paths and cute vegetable gardens for growing vegetables. The bathrooms with showers were relatively close to the room, so it didn't bother me that much. The tent looked and felt even better than a bungalow and a house! The tent I had was big, comfortable, very fixed and well-equipped and really made you feel at home with the look of a tent with lots of ventilation windows. The food is great and fresh and there is a good menu and many types of vegetarian food. I tried everything and I loved it. There is a cute little pool and it was nice to splash around in it and catch some sun in front of the legendary baobab tree. The staff is lovely. Zaki, Richard, the cooker and the cleaner and of course the managers Sabine and Emma, and they help with everything you need and with safari trips and all possible information. I booked for four days and finaly ended up staying eight days in a row! I took two afternoon/evening safaris in Luangwa Park, one morning bush walking safari and one full day private safari at Luangwa! I saw all the animals including lions and leopards several times. The only thing I didn't get to see were lion cubs. There is also a trip to get to know the local community for those who are interested in local people living a village life. Highly recommend for those who are interested the idea, for those who want to forget about the city and have peace of mind and for those who want a quiet, beautiful and calm place in the bush with great staff, to feel Africa and be somehow close to the safari trips in south Luangwa.
* On my last night, in the evening when I returned from a long safari day of 12 consecutive hours, I rested a bit on the sofa in my tent and Emma and Sabin's friendly female dogs were locked up separately by them before they went out the guesthouse for their own reasons at both sides of the guesthouse and barked pitifully non-stop for more than an hour and a half which disturbed my peace of mind and it was very annoying me. Only after Emma and Sabin returned, they released the dogs and the silence returned with a quiet night.
* On my last night, I had no hot water in the shower because guests who were there took a long time to shower and wasted all the water, so the entire tank was empty.
* The guesthouse is a bit far from south Luangwa national park, about half an hour driving each direction and will cost you $30 go and back by the guest house shuttle each time you wanna go to Luangwa safari.

..... alles was goed
