Awful
There was someone there to show me how to collect the keys with a code from just outside the door.
I spent 11 days in this apartment in Neuilly-Sur-Marne, and it was awful. If I could give it negative -10 rating I would.
Let’s start with the basics: the linen had clearly been used by the previous guests. Nothing like lying down on sheets that tell someone else’s story. The apartment was dirty on arrival, and there’s a cleaning fee if you want someone to come in to clean it. There were cockroaches, because they were the only ones who seemed at home here.
The bathroom had mold (perfect if you’re hoping for a bonus respiratory infection souvenir), and in the bedroom/lounge some mold had been artistically hidden behind a painting—think of it as an avant-garde health hazard installation.
The photos on Booking.com make it look like a trendy, luxe pad. Reality check: it’s more like a student squat with extra fungus.
And the pièce de résistance? No hot water. For the entire 11 days. I took cold showers the whole time, which was a character-building exercise I hadn’t signed up for. When I complained, the landlord’s brilliant response was: “Oui, c’est noté, merci.” (Translation: “Yes, noted, thanks. Now go freeze some more.”) Staff later admitted the boiler had been broken for over two weeks, with no fix in sight. This crucial detail, of course, was mysteriously absent from the listing.
To summarize: dirty sheets, cockroaches, mold masquerading as artwork, and the privilege of paying extra for a “cleaning” somewhere that should have been clean on entering — all topped off with a daily ice-bucket-challenge shower.
Would I stay here again? Only if Booking.com opened a new category called “Survivor Housing.”
