We had a lovely and relaxing week in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle in this beautiful gîte located in a pastoral setting on a hillside above the Céou River Valley. The gîte is well and thoughtfully equipped, with two comfortable bedrooms and one bath upstairs and a large kitchen/dining area/living room on the ground floor, connected to a beautiful terrace where we spent lots of time. (There is a laundry area and second toilet in the basement.) The hosts welcomed us with local wine and pate, as well as coffee pods for the Nespresso machine, a nice touch! We appreciated that they provided us with plenty of paper towels, toilet paper and dishwashing and laundry soap. We enjoyed the large heated pool (shared with other guests on the property site) and its breathtaking views over the hillside. The hosts live onsite in another building and are very responsive to any requests for assistance while also respectful of guest privacy. The surrounding area offers plenty of activities, including canoeing on the Dordogne River, bike riding, hiking, visiting picturesque villages, gardens, prehistoric caves, etc. One thing to note for anyone with mobility issues is that the circular stairs to the upstairs bedroom area may be a little hard to navigate (but which was not an issue for us). Overall, we highly recommend this rental for anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the Dordogne, and would be very happy to return ourselves!
