The positive aspects were the 24-hour check-in, the comfortable bed, and the convenient, frequent connections to the city centre.
Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The apartment appears to have been renovated with limited attention to detail, and the cleanliness was questionable: loose halogen spotlights hanging from the ceiling, a blocked bathroom sink, and a dining table with chairs more suitable for a camping setup than for an apartment. The neighbours were also partying until after 3 a.m ne night.
These issues alone would not have resulted in such a negative review if it had not been for the final surprise: a £30 deduction from the security deposit without any prior discussion or request for clarification.
The host claimed that I had opened a locked service cupboard and used additional linen. In reality, the cupboard was open and I only took two towels and one sheet because the sofa bed for the fifth guest had not been prepared and towels for the fifth person were missing. I later discovered that the complete set for the fifth bed was in another cupboard, which I had never opened. The linen I used did not create any additional laundry costs, as it simply replaced unused items that remained untouched.
I consider this approach unprofessional. A simple conversation before deducting money from the deposit could have easily clarified the situation. The £30 amount is not the issue; the lack of communication and customer care turned a minor misunderstanding into a very negative experience.
The handling of the situation by Booking.com was also disappointing: the host’s request was processed without any prior discussion with me, and when I raised my complaint, I was told that my position was understandable but that nothing could be done because the host had refused it.
I travel frequently and this is the first time I have left such a negative review. I am very mindful of the impact reviews can have on someone’s business and I was willing to give this property a chance despite its limited history. Unfortunately, this experience taught me to be more careful in the future.
