(Written by the wife) - My husband and I stayed at The Smoke Show for our 25th wedding anniversary, and overall, it is a beautiful cabin. It was very clean when we arrived, and I immediately loved that cozy wood cabin smell when we walked through the door.
The cabin is newer, beautifully decorated, and in a great location with easy access to both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, microwave, and everything we would have needed if we wanted to cook. I also really loved the separate bar area.
One of my favorite features was the hidden “Red Room of Pain.” I loved that the entrance was hidden behind the bookcase and that you had to solve a riddle to figure out how to unlock it. It was such a fun and unique touch!
I also loved the double shower, despite the water pressure issue, and the overall romantic feel of the cabin. I can definitely see this being a great cabin for honeymooners, anniversaries, or couples looking for a romantic getaway.
Unfortunately, we experienced several maintenance issues during our stay. The biggest disappointment for me was the gas fireplace. Every time we turned it on, all three smoke alarms would go off. We tried several times before eventually giving up, so we weren’t able to enjoy the fireplace at all during our stay.
The battery-operated candles didn’t work, and neither did the red light in the upstairs “Red Room of Pain.” I even switched batteries from a remote that I knew worked, but I still couldn’t get the red light to turn on.
The water pressure in the double shower was also extremely low. I know water pressure can sometimes be an issue with mountain cabins, but this was probably the lowest I’ve experienced and made showers take much longer than normal.
We also had an issue with the washer/dryer displaying a message to check the hose, so after using it once to wash some towels, I didn’t use it again. The inside door handle also came completely off in my hand and appeared to need to be tightened or secured.
I would also suggest adding screens to the windows so guests can enjoy the fresh mountain air when the weather is nice. Most importantly, I think the large kitchen window needs some type of window covering. It looks toward the cabin behind it and doesn’t offer much privacy, especially at night.
None of these things completely ruined our stay, but there were enough small maintenance issues that they took away from what otherwise could have been an excellent cabin experience.
