Chilled atmosphere. Feels very safe.
We came for a week 16 February and we have the luxury of being able to stay, so we extended our stay until 2 April.
We have absolutely nothing negative to say about Northern cove.
Great hot shower, we haven't been bothered by any bugs.
Breakfast is not offered, but Lotus supermarket is a short walk, so easy to get food or a Macdonalds breakfast.
Some days it's busy, some days it's extremely quiet. No two days have been the same.
The Viva food court is a two minute walk and the food is great. It's open 4.30-11pm. Closed Wednesday. The prices are amazing. There are English food, Arabic, Asian food stalls. The Penang curry is amazing and so is the Claypot Chicken.
The tide is constantly changing the shore line, cruise ships can be seen in the distance. The ferry to Butterworth is a few Ringits and takes about 20 mins
Grab taxis are really convenient. And they do food delivery too - we haven't used it though
Do bring pool type shoes the beach is full of shells and there are rocks to climb to get better views.
The staff at the hotel are helpful, really accommodating and friendly.
Our plan is to extend our stay further.

I cant think of anything I don't like about Penang. It's probably going to be the starting point of any future travels around Asia.
Northern Cove will be our preferred accommodation.
We originally booked very last minute and travelled from Kuala Lumpur by bus and ferry to Penang. Our plan was to then carry on by bus, ferry, train through to Vietnam, which we've done before then on to some countries we haven't visited.
However, Penang is such a beautiful place, we are still here at the Northern Cove weeks later.
Taiwan, Korea, Japan, are still in our plans for this trip. But for now Penang suits us perfectly and we have the luxury of taking as much time as we like before packing up and moving on.

I reviewed our first stay at Northern Cove, we originally booked for a week and extended our stay by a further ten days.
It's relaxed. It's on the beach. Short walk supermarket if you need supplies, ATM, haircut, facial, massage, Macdonalds, BKing, etc
There is a local food place that serves anything g from pizza, local dishes, drinks. Probably two mins walk away
We have t had any issues with the internet.
The tide does come in, but the beach is still accessible.
We found the beaches to be quiet and clean, however, bits are washed up overnight, nobody can control that there are small teams out every day racking any debris up. But it has not been a problem at all. Certainly not littered, simply overnight debris washed in on the tide.
We have now booked a few more days
Do bring some beach/pool shoes as there are a huge amount of shells, it just makes walking along the beach, climbing over rocks a little more comfortable.
Get the Grab app, it's only a few mins by car/taxi to Penang Hill, temples, Gurney Mall.
As in other reviews, yes there is music. Pop your headphones, AirPods or whatever on, it is not excessive. We were absolutely fine with it.

It is a quaint little apartment styled accommodation strategically located on the shorelines of Tanjung Bungah. It has great views of the beach and ocean at night and a fairly popular in house restaurant that many seem to frequent. The rooms were a little tight and cramped for 3 beds but it was extremely clean I must admit. Staff were great and basic facilities like electric kettle, towels and heater shower were available.
We had an issue with the water supply where we were located on the 2nd floor and there was little water available to shower with the shower head. We eventually resorted to collecting water in the bucket and then bathing with that. We were made to understand that there was an unexpected piping issue but we we managed. The staff did their best under the circumstances.
