3/5? — Stylish building but disappointing stay

The facilities at this block are extensive and excellent. The gym is well equipped, the lifts are fast and the location is extremely convenient when coming from Croydon station. There are many rooms to relax in and work from if you plan on staying at the venue more than going out during the stay. The accommodation is shared with people who are residents of the building. The room was clean and had a lot of storage. The bathroom looked fairly new and comfortable. Views from the 33rd floor were nice.

The building itself is lovely and feels very high-end, but unfortunately the actual accommodation and our experience with the host fell well below what we expected. The bedroom was far too small for two people. Calling it a studio feels generous, and the “double” bed was more like a small double. The mattress felt old and uncomfortable, while the pillows were so heavily washed and worn that they had essentially become clumps of fabric inside pillowcases. The Staycosy hosts were very good at sending the usual courtesy messages asking us to let them know if we needed anything, but unfortunately when we actually raised issues, we found them largely unhelpful. The shower was initially far too hot. To be fair, this was resolved the following day after we reported it, although we were never told whether someone had actually attended to fix it or whether the issue had resolved itself. Our other concerns were met with very little interest. When we explained that the room was excessively hot, we were told there was no air conditioning, no fan could be provided, and the windows did not open fully. When we mentioned the poor-quality pillows, we were told that extra pillows weren't provided. We also commented on the bed being smaller than expected, but there was little acknowledgement of the issue. We certainly weren't expecting five-star treatment, but for the price and the standard suggested by the building itself, the accommodation was below par. There was also a persistent whistling/wind noise throughout the day and night, apparently coming from outside in the hallway, possibly from the ventilation system. Combined with the close proximity to the train station, the frequent police presence around the Boxpark and the constant coming and going of people in the building, we didn't find the location particularly relaxing.

Its proximity to the train station was definitely the biggest selling point. It was a nice little apartment. The reception staff were quite responsive and helpful when called upon.
