I made my reservation two days in advance through Booking.com. While I was driving to the hotel, close to midnight, I called the property to let them know I was on my way. To my complete surprise, the receptionist informed me that they had not even checked the Booking.com reservations. They asked me to wait while they reviewed the booking and said they would call me back.
At that moment, I was extremely concerned. I was travelling at night, expecting to arrive at a confirmed hotel, only to be told that the staff were unaware of my reservation.
A short time later, they called back and informed me that, due to heavy rain, the property could not operate and asked me to cancel my reservation. This was completely unacceptable. It was already midnight, I was on the road, and finding alternative accommodation at that hour would have been extremely difficult and stressful.
When I asked them to help provide another room or accommodation, I was instead told that I could stay only if I upgraded my room and paid an additional 500 THB. I found this shocking. I had a confirmed reservation, yet I was effectively being asked to pay more because the hotel had failed to manage its own bookings.
I became very upset and requested to speak with the manager. I explained that this was an unacceptable way to treat a customer and that the hotel's handling of the situation was highly unprofessional. Only after this discussion did the manager agree to provide me with a room without forcing me to pay the additional charge.
This entire experience was extremely distressing. The key issues are:
The hotel failed to monitor and process reservations received through Booking.com.
They attempted to have the customer cancel a confirmed reservation at the last minute instead of taking responsibility.
They tried to charge an additional 500 THB for a room after their own operational failure.
The situation occurred at midnight, placing me under unnecessary stress with no reasonable alternatives.
