This was an amazing place to stay with unbelievably great breakfast and dinner meal sets. I really enjoyed myself and got much wonderful help and support from the staff, a great ski trip, personal experience and culinary adventure. My room was a tatami mat with futon on floor, I was ok and got comfy, I understand there are a couple more Western bed and furniture rooms but never asked to see them. The staff is wonderful, a real team that thinks about their travelers. The living room with a view to the west is just magical.
Nothing I didn’t like - more be ready as a traveler. Bring your own pillow and flashlight. You need a certain skill level to use the ski in / ski out trails. Rent ski package from Ski Can before you get here. Bus from Nagano or the Shiga Kogen shuttle goes to Hoppo Onsen but that is 900 meters away. Phone number on booking.com is not correct, look up Nishi Hoppo Onsen on maps and call for their van they will pick you up at Hoppo Onsen, or get to Yamanoeki which has more buses stop there.

The Hotel was excellent and the staff exceptional - however I would not use Booking.com for this hotel.
