Great stay

My experience staying at this homestay was excellent. It is a truly beautiful place. The host is very kind and gracious; she prepared authentic, home-cooked Kerala-style meals for us, which were absolutely delicious. Another great touch was that she also provided breakfast for our driver.

A very disappointing stay — not worth the price

A very disappointing stay — not worth the price I have stayed in homestays in many parts of the world, but I have never experienced a room quite like this one. Calling it a “room” is generous; it felt more like a glorified storeroom converted into accommodation. I initially booked this property through Booking.com with breakfast included. After arriving, however, the owner told me that my booking did not include breakfast. This was extremely disappointing. If the booking platform is showing a breakfast option, the details should be absolutely clear. Booking.com should also be more careful about the properties it promotes. The location is another significant disadvantage. The homestay is quite far from Kumily bus stand and the main market. An auto costs around ₹40–50 each way, and walking takes at least 10–15 minutes. At this price point, there are much better options available closer to the bus stand. I am not complaining about the size of the room or the bathroom. In fact, the bathroom was reasonably spacious and had modern fittings and a geyser. The problem was the overall condition and arrangement of the room. There was only a small fan, which practically seemed to have just one speed. Cardboard boxes were piled up on a shelf inside the room, and there was an almirah that was of little practical use to a guest. Small cobwebs were also visible in the corners. There wasn’t even a towel in the room when I arrived. Only after I complained was one provided. The room has two large windows, but opening them is hardly practical because the owner was working in the garden immediately outside. So, in reality, there is very little privacy. The approach to the property is equally unimpressive. It feels more like entering through someone’s backyard than approaching a proper homestay. On the day of check-out, a car was parked in the passage in such a way that I had considerable difficulty getting out with my suitcase. Overall, this was a poor and disappointing stay.
