An Absolute Nightmare – Money Wasted and the Start of Our Holiday Ruined

We have never had such a terrible experience with a holiday accommodation before. Upon arrival, the condition of the apartment was so unacceptable that we decided NOT to stay there at all. In our opinion, what we found had nothing to do with normal signs of use, but showed a serious lack of hygiene and proper cleaning. The sofa and chairs had deep, clearly visible stains. In addition, we found hair and insect droppings in the apartment. We immediately documented everything extensively with photographs as evidence. The host's response only made the situation worse. The serious stains and dirt on the furniture were simply dismissed as "normal signs of use.” We find this completely unbelievable. Nobody books and pays for accommodation only to arrive and have to sit on visibly dirty furniture while wondering how clean the rest of the property really is. Because of the condition in which we found the apartment, we saw no other option than not to stay and arrange alternative accommodation. As a result, a large part of the first day of our holiday was lost. Instead of enjoying the start of our holiday, we had to spend our time and energy dealing with a problem that should never have occurred. What makes this experience truly outrageous is that, despite the fact that we documented everything with photographs and ultimately did not stay in the accommodation because of the conditions we found, the host refuses to provide a refund and wants to keep the full amount paid. Of course, an accommodation may show signs of use. However, there is a huge difference between normal signs of use and visible dirt, hair, and insect droppings. The combination of the extremely poor hygiene, the way our complaints were dismissed, and the refusal to offer a reasonable solution afterwards makes this one of the most disappointing holiday experiences we have ever had.
