Location and view amazing but host is rude

The property is very close to Grenoble and easy to get to, as well as having access to a variety of supermarkets and restaurants nearby. You get an amazing view of the mountains from the patio, great in summer for sitting outside in the evenings. The property was clean and decent equipment provided for cooking.

There’s a few major issues to be aware of before you book. Firstly, the host requires a €400 deposit before staying, paid directly to his bank account (against booking.com guidance). It wasn’t made sufficiently clear when booking but we had no choice but to pay as the property was non-refundable. Secondly, we were booking for 3 adults and we had specifically booked a 3-bedroom property on purpose. When we arrived, only 1 double bed and 2 single beds (in the same room) had been made up with sheets. When we messaged to ask for the sheets for the third room, we were met with hostility and reluctance as his suggestion was that we had only paid to use the beds they’d made up. This is incorrect as we had booked the whole property of 3 bedrooms but luckily he did come and drop off the additional sheets. Once we had left, we received messages accusing us of leaving the flat untidy, leaving sausage crumbs on the sofa (note that we are all vegetarian/vegan) and ignoring his house rules. It all felt like he was either lying or exaggerating as an attempt to justify taking some money of our deposit, but after much discussion he agreed to return the full deposit . The host has a poor attitude and the fact that he holds the power over returning the deposit meant we were worried about never seeing the €400 again, despite us being respectful and clean guests. I have booked many properties from booking.com and this was by far my worst experience.
