A peaceful retreat and one of the highlights of our time in Georgia.
After two weeks of travelling around Georgia, staying in different places and experiencing everything from simple accommodation to more polished properties, Kaniore Cottage was a wonderful surprise.
We spent two wonderfully peaceful days here, and it was exactly the kind of place we needed towards the end of our journey.
The cottage is ideally suited to a family of four, with the possibility of accommodating two additional people if they are comfortable sleeping on the sofa in the living room. It is thoughtfully equipped with everything a traveller could realistically need, including a washing machine, which was particularly welcome during a longer road trip.
The entire house is also air-conditioned, which is surprisingly uncommon in Georgian accommodation and made a real difference to our comfort.
What impressed us most was the standard. The quality of the facilities and equipment is genuinely Western European in its approach and, based on what we experienced during two weeks of travelling around Georgia, it was comfortably above the standard we encountered elsewhere.
The location is another significant advantage. Kaniore Cottage is ideally positioned for exploring some of the highlights of the region, including Martvili Canyon, Okatse Canyon, Kutaisi and Sataplia. It makes an excellent base for discovering the area while still offering a peaceful place to return to at the end of the day.
But, as is so often the case in Georgia, the people are what make a place truly special.
The owners, a wonderful Georgian couple, were incredibly kind and genuinely invested in making our stay a memorable one. Their relative George, who helped us with translation and was, in many ways, our host during the stay, was equally wonderful. His warmth, humour and willingness to help made us feel genuinely welcome rather than simply accommodated.
