Unfortunately, this was one of the worst Airbnb experiences we have had. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed that the refrigerator was leaking water and was wet throughout the interior. The freezer had a strong foul odor, making it unusable. As three female travelers, we were also very concerned to discover that the door connecting our unit to the downstairs occupants could not be locked. When we raised this safety concern with the host, we were told to push the dining table against the door. We did not consider this an acceptable security solution.
The overall cleanliness of the property was far below an acceptable standard. We contacted the host upon arrival but received no response to our email. When we called the next morning, the host apologized for the refrigerator issue and asked for an opportunity to have the property cleaned. We agreed and returned later that evening expecting the concerns to be addressed.
Unfortunately, very little had changed. The floors appeared to have been mopped, the bathroom was only lightly cleaned, and the refrigerator had been wiped out, but it was already leaking water again. Many other cleanliness issues remained unresolved, including dirty and stained rugs, towels that appeared used and had an unpleasant odor, a coffee maker containing mold, dead flies and bugs on various windowsills, a used loofah left in the bathroom, and several bars of used soap. Obvious dirt and grime through out.
We contacted the host again to explain that the issues had not been properly resolved. Advised us that he never recd any of our emails or text messages. Despite being given multiple opportunities to correct the situation, no satisfactory solution was provided. The only compensation offered was a one-night refund if we vacated the property for that night.
In addition to the cleanliness and maintenance concerns, there was no air conditioning, and marijuana smoke from the downstairs occupants regularly drifted into the unit.
