Sadly, we didn't have a good time in this lovely old house
Great location, lovely old Victorian house.
A lot of things didn't work including the cooker ignition and the microwave, and several of the dining chairs were broken. The house was also very full of the owners' belongings, even personal belongings like reading glasses, making us feel more like intruders than guests. Some of those belongings were unsafe for children and left in easily accessible places. It also smelled musty and was hard to air out because the front windows are sealed shut. However, the worst was that me, my husband and our child were bitten by what we were told by the local pharmacist were either fleas or bed bugs. I couldn't find signs of bed bugs so they were likely fleas.
It was impossible to get any help with the problems with the house for almost a week because the (what I eventually realised was AI) email system used by PassTheKeys kept fobbing us off even when we repeatedly asked for a call back. Being apologised to over and over by not even a human being and told my concerns were being addressed when they obviously weren't was awful. We had to try and deal with everything ourselves and it turned what was supposed to be a relaxing family holiday into a horrible, stressful experience.
My advice with PassTheKeys is to not bother with their in-app messenger or email and to just phone them up. You will get a call centre in the Philippines but at least they are real humans in there and they will get the local property manager to call you if you ask for it. When we finally spoke to the manager, Richard, he was very helpful. He said the family who own the house hadn't rented it out much before and promised they would address the issues we'd found. Some of the things, e.g. the cooker, were fixed before we left the house. We were also given a discount.
However, even so, I won't ever book with PassTheKeys again.
