Schiltach is a wonderful village with a historic character hidden in the Kinzigtal (valley of the river Kinzig) in the Black Forest. The village itself is delightful; the people were all kind and friendly in a quiet and respectful way. Something about the ‘vibe’ of the people and place charmed us, even though we could only stay for one night. Despite its well-preserved, medieval appearance, it did have electric chargers for a car within a few minutes walk of the historic village centre.
Gasthof Sonne is a wonderful old historic building on the main ‘square’ or Marktplatz. The owner has clearly taken care to update it while preserving its character. The rooms we had were much nicer than the photographs suggest, and each had its own theme or character.
The owner/manager, or whoever we met, was delightful, kind, and understanding.
Although it doesn’t have a restaurant or bar and the rooms don’t have alcohol-laden, there was a useful ‘honesty bar’ option of a fridge in the hallway. Although we arrived too late to use it, we liked this option in theory as you could relax outside the hotel at tables on the square with your own drinks.
We would love to come again.
It represented excellent value for money - price was low to us.
