Unacceptable cleanliness and hours lost resolving the problem

Unfortunately, there was very little positive to say about the experience. The apartment looked promising from the listing, but the condition on arrival meant we could not reasonably stay there.

The apartment had clearly not been properly cleaned or prepared for our arrival, as the attached photos show. We found unmade/used-looking bedding, rubbish and items left behind, and multiple areas that had not been properly cleaned. What should have been a straightforward check-in turned into hours of calls, messages and chasing both the property and Booking.com while we tried to arrange alternative accommodation. It effectively took up around half of our day and caused considerable inconvenience to our family. The property eventually refunded the accommodation cost, but I do not regard that as compensation, it was simply a refund for accommodation that was not provided in an acceptable condition. Even obtaining the refund required considerable follow up. Booking.com’s additional response was also disappointing. I ultimately received only $70.39 in additional credit. The separate $67.58 was a promotional credit that had already been associated with booking this apartment, rather than meaningful compensation for the disruption we experienced. Both amounts were provided as credits rather than a cash reimbursement. Overall, the amount of time, inconvenience and disruption caused was completely disproportionate to the resolution offered. Based on our experience, I could not recommend this property.
