The apartment was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. Located in a big block of flats with a private parking place in the suburbs of Grenoble.
For my one night stay it was required to pay up front an 800 euro deposit (not a hold, actual payment by card). It is written in the booking.com T&C so it's my fault for not noticing but I have never had to pay a deposit before on booking.com (other than sometimes 20euro for a key or similar). The payment is requested through a private link, not on booking.com. I had to check with booking.com to make sure it wasn't a scam. My money was returned a few days after check-out. I would not stay here again because it's a hassle and I was concerned that I could be accused of damage that I did not make and it would be hard to get the deposit money back. Who would arbitrate a dispute? There are plenty of other apartments that are similar standard without this unnecessary step and financial risk. Also, none of the messages the host sent me through booking.com appeared in my inbox. I had to separately find a phone number and start a whatsapp conversation. This was also worrying. If there had been a problem then booking.com would not see any of the message exchanges about the 800euro deposit request.
