I was looking for accommodation for an overnight stay in Swindon and this came up at the same price as the hotels I usually use in Old Town. I'd wandered past these interesting historic terraced cottages (built for the railway workers back in the day) many times over the years so I thought I'd give this place a try.
For those that don't know (I hadn't) they're maisonettes - out front is a door to the ground floor dwelling, at the rear of the property is a door opening leading to the upstairs dwelling.
Location perfect, The Gluepot is at the end of the road (Hopback pub - had a pint of stout there), Piyadah Thai Massage is 1 min away (old school proper Thai massage - had my muscles kneaded and joints stretched there) and the Drinks Valley is just a couple of mins (craft beer and Indian food - had a pint of Chocolate Stout and an awesome Railway Curry there).
After what had turned out to be a long and stressful day at work; having everything I needed on the doorstep and then being able to retire to the cottage and have the whole place (bedroom, lounge, kitchen, bathroom) to myself rather than just a typical (often cramped) hotel room was very much appreciated. I felt much more relaxed for the following day at work.
Price is a key factor when I'm considering whether to stay over and avoid the early morning 35 mile commute to Swindon, but for the same price as a hotel room I'd take this place every time - I'll be back

Ideal place to stay for a night, the place was clean and the host was very responsive and helpful when we had questions! I also like self check in for flexibility and host was available on the phone, even though we got in quite late
You can’t get a car right up to the front door as the front door is on a street where cars cannot get to. I didn’t realise that when I booked it and we had a lot of stuff to bring inside which made it a bit tricky but we managed
The shower was a bit confusing, I couldn’t figure out how to get warm water until I had already spent ten minutes having a cold shower! I think the taps work the opposite way or something. A sign might be helpful :)
