Camp Carnelleys is in a beautiful spot! We could stare out at the lake from the lovely grass lawns all day. The accommodation was rustic but comfortable and we slept very well. The location is excellent for hells gate national park (we hired bikes from the camp) and the restaurant on site is the star of the show.
We had shared outdoor bathroom facilities which were very functional and worked well but my only issue was that there was no hand soap there! As a result I watched lots of people not wash their hands after using the toilet. My partner got ill a few days later and although we can’t be sure it’s something for the camp to think about for hygiene.

The natural environment is superb although very much under threat.
Accommodation is extremely basic but perhaps that is reflected in the price

The Bandas are really nice and facing the lake. Gives a peaceful ambience and a sense of calmness. Each banda has an external fireplace which is really impressive and provides much privacy to the banda residents.
The rooms need to be tidied up and cleaned everyday, even if the residents are around. The food menu is very restrictive and can do with a bit more variety of cuisine, including some whole Tilapia fish, roasted meat (goat or cow), lamb chops, pork ribs, and a lot more of chicken.
