Quite disappointing and did not meet the standard someone should reasonably expect from booking site

Having a firepit/campfire.

Unfortunately, our recent stay at Monkey Gully Retreat was quite disappointing and did not meet the standard someone should reasonably expect from the photos and description on the booking site. We are seasoned travellers and have also owned and operated accommodation properties in three different countries, so we have a good understanding of what is reasonable and acceptable when it comes to presenting and maintaining holiday accommodation. Our comments are therefore not based on unrealistic expectations, but on our experience as both guests and accommodation owners.When we arrived, I honestly thought we had the wrong property and checked the number on the letterbox to make sure we were at the correct address. The property generally appeared dated, very untidy and unkempt. The gardens are in considerable need of weeding, trimming and general maintenance. The lawns, if you could call them that, are heavily overgrown with capeweed. They appeared to have been recently mowed, but the grass and weeds were not collected, so simply walking across the lawn resulted in our shoes being covered in grass trimmings. Accordingly, the lawns should have been mowed prior to our arrival and clippings collected to have it in a presentable condition. Both the front and back decks also need a thorough clean. There were bird droppings and other dirt, along with cobwebs and hornets' nests, which made the outdoor areas quite unsightly and un-inviting. The back screen door is broken, and one of the patio chairs was also broken. Inside, the property was reasonably clean, but it is very tired and would benefit from a significant overhaul, painting and general update of the furniture, fixtures and overall presentation. The fridge also needed cleaning. There appeared to be a considerable amount of food and condiments belonging to someone else that was left in the fridge and cupboards, and the freezer was completely full of food.

We had a wonderful family stay! The place was cozy, clean, and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. Relaxing by the fireplace made our stay extra special. We would happily stay here again!
