My 9-night reservation was made 2-3"days before my scheduledarrival. I notified the property that I would arrive around 12:30 p.m. after an international flight; nobody replied. On arrival, I learned the property is a condo plaza with different administrators. There was nowhere to leave luggage, and the administrator initially did not respond through Hotels.com. I was eventually allowed to check in at 1:15 p.m. and requested a 2 p.m. checkout. I was then charged a 3% credit-card surcharge that was not disclosed on Hotels.com. Between the early check-in, late checkout, and surcharge, my final cost was nearly 40% higher than the price I originally booked. There was also a substantial credit-card hold for potential damages. I later learned that Mexican consumer-protection rules may prohibit surcharges simply for paying by card. The room felt poorly maintained: partially empty soap/shampoo dispensers, only one partially used roll of toilet paper, a rusty microwave with chipped paint, scuffed walls, dead batteries in the router remote, and a poorly designed bathroom where shower water floods the floor and the faucet splashes against the mirror. We were told pool towels were available but never received any. Overall, this felt much more like a poorly managed Airbnb than a hotel, and the additional charges made what initially appeared to be a reasonable booking considerably more expensive.
