The Waipi'o Valley lookout brings one of the island’s most dramatic landscapes into view, and the Hamakua drive itself is part of the experience. Getting Around:

Honokaa is a charming town on the Big Island's Hamakua Coast, roughly 50 to 60 minutes from Hilo International Airport. A rental car is essential here, as this rural area is spread out and reaching Waipio Valley, Hilo, or Kona side attractions requires driving. The small town center offers a walkable stretch of local shops and eateries. Parking is easy and uncrowded, fitting this peaceful, off the beaten path setting.
